Lightweight
Aluminum density is 2.70 g/cm³ vs copper 8.96 g/cm³. For the same length, the weight is reduced by about 65%, lowering the overall cable load and making installation and transportation easier.
Significant Cost Advantage
Aluminum alloy raw material cost is much lower than copper, and processing energy consumption is also lower. The overall cost is reduced by 30~40% while maintaining excellent shielding performance.
Excellent Shielding Performance
5xxx series alloys have good electrical conductivity (conductivity about 53–55% IACS). With thickness optimization, they can achieve shielding performance comparable to copper tape, while providing excellent electromagnetic interference (EMI) resistance.
Corrosion Resistance & Environmental Protection
Magnesium element gives aluminum alloy natural corrosion resistance, making it suitable for outdoor photovoltaic environments. It also complies with RoHS/REACH standards and supports green circular economy.
Aluminum alloy shielding tape in the 10kHz~100MHz frequency range shows shielding attenuation values within less than 5% difference compared to copper tape. With micro-scale coating or composite processes, it fully meets new energy cable standards (CQC/TUV certification supported).
Can aluminum alloy tape fully replace copper shielding tape?
Yes. In most photovoltaic and new energy cable applications, 5xxx series aluminum alloys can provide sufficient shielding performance while also reducing cost and weight.
Which alloy grade is most suitable for cable shielding?
5052 and 5154 series alloys are widely used due to their balanced combination of strength, corrosion resistance, and flexibility.
Can the conductivity of aluminum alloy shielding tape meet cable shielding requirements?
Yes. 5xxx series aluminum alloys have a conductivity of approximately 53%–55% IACS, which is fully sufficient for medium and low-voltage cable shielding. In addition, the aluminum strip thickness can be appropriately increased (0.12–0.18mm), making the resistance per unit length close to that of copper tape. The actual shielding performance has been verified through GB/T 17650 and IEEE 299 testing standards.
Do you provide sample testing? What is the minimum order quantity?
Free A4 samples or 1kg small sample rolls are available for equipment testing. The standard MOQ is 500kg, and trial orders for new customers are supported at 200kg. Delivery time is 10–20 days depending on specifications.
What is the difference between 55mm/76mm/150mm inner diameter and standard 200mm inner diameter?
Different cable shielding winding machines have different spindle diameters. We provide multiple inner diameter options, especially for European or older equipment requiring small cores (55mm, 76mm), ensuring stable tension without fluctuation. Please provide your equipment parameters so we can match precisely.
Does replacing copper tape require changes in the shielding winding process?
No major adjustment is required. Aluminum alloy tape has excellent flexibility. It is recommended to reduce tension by 5–8% compared with copper tape, while the overlap rate can remain unchanged. A process guidance manual is available.
Can you customize coil sizes required by machines?
Yes. We can provide fully customized services according to the requirements of cable extruders and armoring machines.
